Our cattle
We manage around 75 cattle as part of a share farming arrangement. We run both suckler cows and store cattle.
Our suckler cows are a mix of hardy native breeds, ideally suited to managing grasslands for environmental benefits. They are well adapted to low-input, unimproved grassland, and thrive off the coarser native grasses which are unpalatable to some modern continental breeds. They are entirely pasture-fed, and receive no supplementary feed.
Our store cattle are dairy-bred, with Angus or British Blue sires. We buy them in at about 6 months old for keeping / rearing outdoors during the summer months. They spend one winter indoors on a grain-based ration, produced on the farm, and then go back out to grass as soon as conditions allow.
Our sheep
We have around 300 breeding ewes, with a focus on low-input, low-impact lamb production. Breeding the wool off our sheep has been the single biggest improvement to the flock’s health, welfare and efficiency, and we are now working with Low Footprint Lamb to introduce and trial some of the best shedding sheep genetics from around the world. Our objective is to breed low-methane, self-shedding, non-seasonal-lambing sheep, which will fit a niche in arable systems that want to lamb in the autumn and graze winter cover crops.
Our produce
We pride ourselves in producing fantastic meat for you, your family, or your customers to enjoy.
As well as supplying the public directly through our meat box scheme, we are also happy to talk to local resultants, pubs and other catering establishments who would like to work with local producers.
